The jassid (Jassidae) is a significant pest in agriculture, known for its detrimental impact on various crops. Jassids are known for sipping fluids from plant leaves and acting as carriers of plant diseases. They typically hide on the undersides of leaves during the day. The damage caused by jassids is identifiable by puncture spots on the leaves where they have fed. This feeding activity disrupts the plants’ normal growth and development, often leading to stunted growth and, in severe cases, premature plant death.

PRIMA Agro Tech employs two specific biocontrol microorganisms to manage jassid infestations effectively:
Verticillium lecanii isolate ID05-F0117: This entomopathogenic fungus is effective against jassids. It infects the pests by attaching to their bodies and penetrating the exoskeleton. Inside the jassid, Verticillium lecanii proliferates, disrupting internal functions and ultimately causing the pest’s death. This isolate is particularly beneficial due to its adaptability to different environmental conditions and its efficacy in targeting various pest species.
Beauveria bassiana isolate B33: This fungus is a natural insecticide against jassids. It attaches to the jassid’s exoskeleton and then penetrates it, growing inside the insect’s body. As it multiplies, Beauveria bassiana consumes the jassid’s internal nutrients and releases toxins, weakening and eventually killing the host. This isolate is valued for its virulent properties and capability to control various stages of the jassid’s life cycle, from nymphs to adults.
By combining these biocontrol agents, PRIMA Agro Tech offers a comprehensive and sustainable approach to managing jassid populations. This method targets existing pests and helps create an environment that discourages future infestations, ensuring long-term protection and health for many crops.
